HELP WANTED:

Director of Accounting


TravelAdvocates is a group travel services company that books hotels for thousands of groups each year. We are seeking an energetic self-starter to join our leadership team in our Accounting Department in our Hoboken NJ office. This job is full time with room to grow to a VP level and beyond within the company. TravelAdvocates remains an active member of industry associations like the Student Youth Travel Association, American Bus Association, National Tour Association, International Inbound Travel Association, NYC & Company, and others.

 

You will be trained in multiple facets of the company and will handle Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable reporting directly to the Executive Vice President for Finance. Your daily tasks will include interfacing with hotels and customers from all over the globe mostly via email and phone. You will primarily be responsible for billing our customers which amounts to reconciling around 2,500 group folios a year. Our Accounting Managers will report directly to you and support your efforts; you will manage their day to day. You will be processing hotel folios and creating invoices to send to our customers. This involves some data entry and other administrative and bookkeeping tasks.


The ideal candidate will have at least 2 years of hotel-related accounting experience or have worked for a tour operator or meeting planning company where you were involved with group rooming lists and paying hotel bills for groups (not individuals). You must be great with math, self-motivated, optimistic, detail-oriented, a problem fixer, and have a strong sense of urgency as we are heavily deadline-driven. This person must also be a multi-tasker and be able to handle multiple projects at any given time. To be successful, this person must be extremely fast on the PC, Internet, Word, Excel, QuickBooks and Outlook. Experience with QuickBase is a plus but not required. The job is perfect for someone who has worked on hotel-side or for a DMC, tour operator, or meeting planning firm in accounting where they reconciled group rooming lists and created invoices to be sent to the group. Candidates without these skills and experience will not be considered.

 

Our Hoboken office offers a casual (wear shorts in the summer!), fun atmosphere with beautiful views of Manhattan. The office is easily accessible via NJ Transit/PATH/Light Rail. Compensation includes health benefits, 401k with company match, paid time off and travel related benefits. This is a full time salaried position. Your compensation will be based on your experience and potential to succeed.  Growth in this position is dependent on this candidate.
